3D Ultrasound Cardiac Vector Flow Imaging

The purpose of this project is to image the three-dimensional blood flow motion within the heart at sufficiently high volume rates to capture transient events such as the contraction of the heart.

Synthetic aperture techniques, pioneered at CFU, have been successfully used in 2D imaging to measure blood velocities with very high velocity ranges and very high precision.

These techniques will be investigated on volumetric 3D blood flow measurements, where there's an issue of velocity range. The project will also investigate the application of the row-column architecture to cardiac imaging, where the rib cage limits the acoustic windows imposing certain constraints on the dimensions of the probe.
