Engineers and doctors working together to develop a tool than can predict future patients with Parkinson's disease

It is very likely, that a certain sleeping disorder associated with abnormal movements during the REM Sleep & Dreaming phase, may be an early sign of Parkinson's disease.

Engineers and doctors are now together developing a tool based on a range of electrophysiological markers to predict future patients.

Hopefully, this will considerably expand the range of possibilities for developing medicine to stop the degeneration process.

This trail blazing research is headed by Associate Professor Helge Bjarup Dissing Sørensen, head of Biomedical Signal Processing in the Biomedical Engineering Group at DTU and Professor, Consultant Poul Jennum from the Danish Center for Sleep Medicine at the Department of Clinical Neurophysiology at Glostrup Hospital.
